Year 4 – October Update

Date: November 6, 2015 Author: ICT Categories: News, Year 4

Where has October gone?

We finally managed to advise Wallace and Gromit that the recycled dinosaur wee was safe to drink.  We had to do a lot of research and several science investigations to prove that it was in fact just purified rain water.  Ask your children to explain!  Although, thinking back, none of us actually tasted it!

We had a fantastic trip to the Gurdwara where we experienced, first-hand, how Sikhs pray and celebrate their religion.  We were amazed by some of the artefacts in the museum.  Some of us were even brave enough to try the rather spicy curry!  We saw the local community joining in with prayers and had a brilliant guide who helped to answer all of our questions.  We had a really informative and enjoyable morning that brought our class learning to life!

The teachers have really enjoyed receiving your Quest work this month.  There were some amazing ideas for helping us to learn our times tables and the poetry work and poster ideas were great.  We would like to say a big thank you to all of those parents who have clearly been supporting their children to achieve their very best with their Quest work.  It really does help to consolidate the learning that takes place in the classroom.

Some children have been making an amazing effort to learn their spellings and this is starting to feed into their written work.  The spelling rules they are investigating are leading to several challenging words that need learning and some year 4 children are really rising to the challenge!  Well done! Remember word lists are set every fortnight so the children have two weeks to learn them.  During each week they complete several activities related to these words and spelling rules.  The more they can do at home, the easier they will find it and the quicker they will learn them.

Pink Day proved to be a success in year 4.  There were some brilliant costumes and once again we all had fun raising money for such a worthwhile charity.

Keep up the hard work with the home reading!  The children love earning certificates, stickers and prizes.  You’ve got to be in it to win it!  (As we say in 4S!)

Shaun has contacted us this month.  How silly to get locked in a stately home!  Especially just as they have closed it down for the winter!  How will we be able to help him?  Keep reading next month to find out exactly what adventures are ahead of us and how we get on.  Will Shaun survive the winter months?  We certainly hope so!
