New York – Day 1 – Sunday

Date: October 21, 2014 Author: Admin Categories: New York 2014, News

Mrs Davies travelled to New York with staff from schools throughout Leicestershire and Leicester City, all of whom are members of Affinity Teaching School Alliance. Unfortunately Miss Newman has been unable to join the visit. This is a study visit organised through the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL). Those taking part aim to gain knowledge and understanding of the ways in which a wide variety of schools in New York City  help children to develop, learn and take their place in society. This information will be shared in our school and with colleagues from Affinity TSA and other local schools. We will also share our findings  through the NCTL, with possible impact on National educational policy. We arrived safe and sound in New York on Saturday evening, following a 7 hour flight from Heathrow airport. The time in New York is five hours behind the UK so that made Saturday a very long day for us. On Sunday we had some time to look around the city. Walking in Central Park and a trip around the island (New York is surrounded by water) were favourite activities today. We also received information on the schools we shall visit and meetings we shall have with staff from the Department for Education – it’s going to be a busy week.
