Church Links

St Mary’s Church, Barwell

The school has developed strong links with St Mary’s Parish Church, Barwell. The Rector of St Mary’s Church, Barwell, Rev’d Philip Watson, visits our school regularly to lead collective worship. He is also actively involved with the school as a governor and plays a pastoral role to staff, pupils and families.

The school worships in St Mary’s Parish Church at certain times of the year. Varying concerts, festivals and celebrations organised in the church by the school have proven to be very popular with the whole community. Our annual Nativity concert takes place here and is a highlight of our school calendar, as was the case this year when our talented Year 4s performed.

In July, our year 6 children take part in a special service during the week before they leave our school. Each pupil will receive a Bible as a leaving gift from the school and church, presented by representatives of the school and church collectively.  St Mary’s Church supports us each year in covering the cost of buying these Bibles to present to our Year 6 leavers.

Most Wednesdays, friends of St Mary’s Church come into school to reenact stories from the Bible for our children to enjoy.  These are a highlight of our week, with both staff and children looking forward to their delivery, forming another great link between the church and school.

Salvation Army in Hinckley

The school has also forged links with the Salvation Army in Hinckley, with whom we work each year, especially at harvest time when we donate gifts of tinned and packet foods to their appeal.

Barwell Methodist Church

We are also pleased to have strong links with Barwell Methodist Church through the support of Rev’d John Wesseldine.  Christmas time sees us displaying our artistic skills towards church competitions, be this Christmas tress or crib festivalsand also singing carols as part of a community Christmas service .
