Charitable Links

Over the years we have supported a wide range of charities, regularly raising over £3000 each year for good causes. Below is an update of our annual activities.

Charitable Acts

Harvest Gifts

Harvest gifts

Fresh and packaged food are donated to school by families of pupils as part of our Harvest Thanksgiving celebrations each year. All donations are distributed amongst the poor and needy and the elderly. The Salvation Army take a number of large boxes of tinned and packaged food to give to the poor. Some produce is donated to Harvey House and Saffron House and every elderly resident of Church Close and St Mary’s Court receives a gift box containing fresh and packaged produce.

Aqua Box and Rotary

Aqua Box donations

Children in Year 4 donate gifts to fill n ‘Aqua Box’. This is a humanitarian aid box containing everything necessary to provide shelter and to sustain a family caught up in large scale disaster. Our Aquaboxes have travelled to many disaster zones over the years, including areas where war, extreme weather and earthquake have struck. We work through our local branch of the Rotary Club to support this charity.

Breast Cancer Care

Breast CancerEach October we raised over £300 for Breast Cancer Care through our ‘Think Pink’ activities organised by Miss Peace. These include a Pink raffle, Pink games and a Pink non-uniform day.

British Legion Poppy Appeal

Poppy AppealWe sell poppies each year in early November. We often run out of poppies and have to ask for extra supplies. We raised over £50 – £100 for the British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Children in Need

Children in NeedThe children were keen to support the National Children in Needappeal again this year. Through a non-uniform day and various sales we raised over £250.

Rainbows and St Mary’s Parish Church, Barwell

RainbowsThe children often choose these charities as the charities to which we donate the money raised through collections at the Nativity Carol Services held in St Mary’s Church.

We have been able to donate £80 to St Mary’s Parish Church and £80 to Rainbows.

(Leicestershire Organisation for the Relief of Suffering)

Loros LogoWe have again sold ‘Christmas Cuddlies’ – small soft toys costing £1 each, to raise funds for LOROS. We shall continue to support LOROS during Spring Term. with funds raised from our ‘Fitness in School Day’

We have again supported LOROS through a Fitness in School event lead by Brian Hookway. This is an event that we run every other year. We raised over £250 or LOROS this year.

Postman Pat and Jess the Cat

Postman Pat and Jess the Cat walk to Leicester

We always entered into the COMIC RELIEF and SPORT RELIEF days with great enthusiasm. Over the years we have pulled some imaginative stunts, such as walking to Leicester in Postman Pat’s van, running and cycling to Twycross Zoo dressed as a selection of zoo animals, and having a whole week, full staff exercise cycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats.

We regularly raise £2000 – £3000 through these efforts to support excellent causes.

hope-logo This has been our most recent charity drive, the whole school working together to raise funds through Enterprise Activities. well over £2000 was raised to support research into a cure for cancer at labs at Leicester University.

In 2014 – 2015 we would again like to have a whole school major fund raising effort  for a cause to be chosen by children and staff together. A large group of staff are in training to take part in the BADMINTON ‘HORSELESS’ HORSE TRIALS in October – sponsored for the charity of our choice! then the children will be involved in their particular activities to to add to the pot of funds.

Of course, we shall still be having our Pink Day, Spotty Day, Harvest and Christmas charity fund raising events as usual.
