Eco Schools

We are an ecologically aware school and we are keen to play our part in taking care of the resources we use day by day.

We are working hard to limit waste. We recycle newspaper, paper, card, plastic and metal and we compost a lot of our waste food. We take care not to waste water and power, and we re-use as many resources as we can.

Our Eco-School Committee is led by Mr Pryor, Mrs Allen-Carter, Mr Young and children from all year groups meet regularly with Mr Pryor to make us even more ecologically aware.

Eco Warriors

One child from each class in our school form the Eco-Warrior Team. They are all volunteers and you can see all their pictures below. They meet with the adults in the pictures above to discuss ways in which we may all work together to improve our environment in an ecologically friendly way. The children then put plans into action with their classes throughout the school.

How can you help?

Used batteries and printer cartridges are accepted by school for recycling – please send yours in to school.

Parents – think eco-friendly in the home – help your children to understand how they can save resources.

Eco-Activities

Every day we all work hard to limit the amount of paper we use. Paper is recycled in school for activities. When paper is of no further use to us, it is recycled. Children from the Eco-Schools Committee help with this task each day.

We have green cone ‘digesters’ in our grounds into which we put left over food, tea bags, fruit peel etc. to make compost for our school grounds. Thanks to Mr Young for working on this project every week.

We have recycling bins in the playground so that children can easily sort their rubbish. Cans and plastics are recycled from the playground and the staff room.

We also recycle batteries to raise funds and we collect used printer cartridges help to raise funds for sports equipment.

Mrs Allen Carter and Mr Young work hard to make sure our premises are as eco-friendly as possible. We are using less water and electricity because of the way premises are carefully managed.

Because of our commitment to the environment and the effectiveness of our continuing work in this area, we have been awarded Green Flag status – the highest calibre of award in the Eco-Schools programme.
